My Chemical Romance Announce Reunion Show
In 2012, one of my favorite bands ever broke up. My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way put out a lengthy note the following year, outlining what they were doing and why. He as diplomatic. I think he realized he was about to disappoint a lot of people.
“My Chemical Romance is done. But it can never die. It is alive in me, in the guys, and it is alive inside all of you. I always knew that, and I think you did too. Because it is not a band—it is an idea.”
It was a bummer, to put it plainly, and the world lost one of its premier pop rock acts. And I’m not going to rail against DJs, Taylor Swift and the “soulless cookie-cutter production process” because that would make me a hypocrite and, also, a pain in the ass to listen to.
And the truth is, I like listening to a lot of today’s music. Because there’s nothing wrong with any of it.
But MCR was something different. And today, seven years later, they announced their reunion.
My Chemical Romance: Return
Earlier today, My Chemical Romance announced a reunion show, bringing the boys back together for the first time since 2012. In interviews in recent months and years, Gerard Way has flat out confirmed the band continued to remain friends after the split. He even went as far as to say they’d get together for quarterly barbecues and discuss whether or not to reband.
All of which makes me feel a little silly for not seeing this coming. But that’s neither here nor there, as the band is set to perform at the Shrine Expo Hall in LA on 20 December. Ticket prices are already up, and fans can secure theirs here. I’ll be sitting this one out, unfortunately, because I live in Florida and I’m on that earn-to-eat livin’ right now.
But the long and short of it is, after eight years away from us, MCR are coming back. And, with a concert that shares a name with the mind blowing return season of Twin Peaks from last year, I can’t wait to see how this all shakes out.
Now, excuse me while I fire up Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys and sing my eyes out in the car.
